Khalil Guinn

Welcome to DROPTHATGUT.COM! My name is Lawrence (aka Khalil Guinn). I’ve established this blog in order to help YOU reach your weight loss goals.  I’m not a fitness expert or a personal trainer, just a guy who got fed up with the gut I had been carrying around for the past few years and finally decided to do something about it.  Hopefully my past and present weight loss/fitness journey will help motivate and inspire you to do the same.  I firmly believe that almost anybody can lose weight if you set realistic goals & follow a plan that includes eating healthy, controlling your portion sizes, and incorporating exercise into your daily routine at least 3 to 4 days a week.  I wasn’t always overweight.  In fact, my story is pretty similar to many of you reading this now. Check out the video below to see my gradual progression from “Thin to Fat”  over the course of 8 years.  Or, you can skip the video and keep reading. :)

From high school up until about 2002, I was a skinny guy and weighed between 180 – 185lbs. I could pretty much eat anything and everything without gaining weight. A few years after high school I played a lot of volleyball, some basketball, and a few other sports with co-workers several times a week. My eating habits were never really that healthy, but it didn’t affect my weight at the time.  I was young and all was right with the world.  :)

I moved from Detroit to Chicago in 2001 (GREAT FOOD THERE!!) and stopped exercising, but kept the same unhealthy eating habits. Once I hit my mid 20′s and became settled into a non-active lifestyle of drinking and eating out every single day, my weight slowly started to climb. The fact that I was also in the IT field (you know how the Corporate world LOVES lunch meetings, right??) and sitting at a desk all day didn’t help my situation. From 2002 through April 2009, I put on an additional 68lbs (185lbs to 253lbs). At one point back in 2003 I had started to lose weight and workout regularly, but after an extended hospital stay the weight came back and I stopped working out altogether.  From there I got married, had 4 kids, kept working in the IT field and continued to lead a very non-active lifestyle.

I was right on track to fulfill a family legacy of obesity and other weight-related illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart problems.  While I did get a yearly physical and everything always checked out fine, my doctor warned me that soon the weight and bad nutrition would catch up with me.

In April of 2009, I sat down and took an honest look at where I was headed, both in my professional and personal life.  I was laying in bed at a hotel room when a BeachBody P90x infomercial came on and grabbed my attention. There were no gimmicks, no crazy quick weight loss diet pills or “juice diets”, just healthy meal plans and basic supplements, some dumbbells, resistance bands, and a pull-up bar.  After watching the testimonials and looking at other people’s results on YouTube, I made the decision to change my lifestyle and “drop that gut” which had been with me over the past 8 years.  There was no reason why I couldn’t have the body I wanted physically if I worked hard enough for it.

However, I felt that going straight into such an extreme program like P90x without having worked out for years may not be the best way to get back on track . My short-term goal was to lose weight and tone up enough within 90 days. After that, I’d be able to maximize my results during the P90x program.  After some additional research I ordered “Power 90″ (the predecessor to P90x). I started the first part of my journey on May 5th, 2009 and finished on August 5th, 2009.  During that time I lost 28lbs (down from 253lbs to 223lbs).

Since then, I’ve lost another 6lbs (just healthy eating and light exercise) and will start P90x at a weight of 215-216lbs in September 2009. I owe a large part of my success to the YouTube Beachbody community, but in the end it also comes down to the fact that I followed the BeachBody Slogan:  DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED. Anything you want in life is possible if you live by that principle. Thanks to Beachbody, I’ve reclaimed my life and am thankful I found them when I did.

There is absolutely NO reason why you can’t do the same.  If you’d like to learn more about what I do as a Beachbody Coach and how I can help you reach your goals, feel free to contact me.
