New to P90x? – THEN BRING IT, BUT DON’T BREAK IT! :)

I just wanted to take a few minutes to talk to anybody who has just started (or is thinking about starting) P90x. If there are any other suggestions you’d like to add, feel free. We’re all in this together!

Dude, you are a super inspiration I personally am an inch shorter than you and am 10 pounds less then when you started. I do realize being 244 and jumping into p90x is pretty extreme. I was wondering what is you suggestions for the massive back pain from ab ripper x. I started it and got to the cycling and my lower back felt odd. I realize that is a generic description, but I used to love banging out sit-ups. Regular type and declined sit-ups are not hard on my back at all but these are, I think it is due to form possibly or the floor being to hard maybe. I would like your Ideas and thoughts, and once again you are another one of my inspirations.
    thanks Darren

    Hey Darren,

Thanks for the comment man. I know that starting out with P90x isn’t easy, but I’ve seen so many people do it (even if it took multiple rounds to get down to their goal weight) that now I know it’s not impossible. If you already own P90x, I would go with the Lean version first at your weight, but that’s just my preference. As for Ab RipperX, get a good exercise mat. It made all the difference in the world for me. Also, be patient and just do what you can starting out. Your body has to get used to thos exercises again. If you’re feeling massive pain and it’s not letting up, then just stop and try again during your next strength training day. Another option is to do the warm-ups, Ab Ripper X, and then your workout. Or, do Ab Ripper X in the morning after warming up, then do your scheduled exercise in the evening (or vice-versa). Whatever you choose to do, listen to your body and try not to injure yourself.

I took last week off because of an injury and health related issue. I know if I had tried to push through it I wouldn’t have been able to start working out again this week. I believe in pushing yourself, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing common sense in the process. :)

Hope this helps Darren. Let me know if you have any other questions. Oh, and you may want to get your back checked out by your doctor if the pain is really bad. Never hurts to get the opinion of a real medical professional. :)

    Hey guys,

A good thick mat is a must, but also try keeping your head up off the floor when doing crunches and on your back leg work. Especially for lower leg lifts and such. I am only on Power 90 so I am not sure what insanity is going on with Ab ripper x, but keeping the head off the floor does support your lower back.

I look forward to joining the 90x insanity in 78 days.

    Scott
